Louie, Louie!
Mr. Louie Louie (also known as Louis the XIV the Sun King) is a happy and energetic basset hound with a big personality and even bigger heart. He was picked up by Stanislaus County Animal Shelter as a stray in the City of Ceres. His owner was contacted but for whatever reason they refused to bail him out of the shelter. Louie was in the shelter for two weeks before he came to his current foster home. Louie is doing absolutely excellent in his foster home; he love to cuddle with his foster parents and roughhouse with his basset foster brother and sister. While he appears to be house broken he has had two accidents in the house so he needs to be contained inside and have some behavior reinforcement. He is living in a house with no children so we have not been able to observe his behavior with children. Any potential adopter with children would likely go through multiple play dates and a trial period prior to formal adoption. Louie, Louie is truly a ‘bassety’ basset! He is low to the ground with very long ears and a perfectly white tipped tail. Overall, he is a dark boy with a mainly black and brownish body and face with a white collar, belly, and feet. He has large chocolate eyes that will melt your heart like fondue. His best feature, however, are the spots on his belly and feet. The spots are a mix of black and brown and are very heavy; they are really very charming. Louie currently weighs 32 lbs. and is relatively small for an adult male basset. He is on the thin side so he could stand to gain a couple pounds. He does not appear to have any health problems and even his teeth are really clean. In addition to his stunning appearance, Louie also has an infectiously happy personality. He wags his tail incessantly and is always available get or give kisses. He has a deep and powerful hound bark and has been observed ‘singing’ with his foster brother and sister. He likes to sleep on his back and let it all hang out. He also likes to chew on stuffed dog toys rather than rip them apart. He has become quite taken with an old duck we have. He is a fierce begger, counter surfer, and his table manners leave much to be desired (full disclosure). This can be corrected with training and positive reinforcement. I have a feeling that this seemingly perfect boy is going to be snapped up by a lucky family super quickly. Maybe it will be yours? |
