Dixie is a petite red & white gal weighing only 39 lbs with a small head but wonderful soft ears. She is sweet and gentle with adults, kids, other dogs and cats. She is house trained and will use a doggie door. She LOVES to snuggle with humans, other dogs and cats! She comes when called and will sit for treats. She is transitioning from being a free feeder to a twice a day feeder which seems to be helping her get her girlish figure back! She will greet you with a gentle jump and wave her paws in the air when you first come in. She is very quiet only barking during play time although she does "click" her teeth and do a low, barely audible bark when she wants something. She went too long between pedicures before she came into her foster home and has already had three nail clips to get her nails short and not clicking on the floor.
At her foster home she actively plays with a large Lab mix and another basset (Roxie and Beatrice), gets along well with the three cats, adores the 12 & 14 year old girls, handles stairs without a problem, snuggles on the couch with a fluffy cat (who was so skiddish before, even people had a hard time handling her), will also sleep soundly on her doggie bed, and enjoys short walks around the neighborhood. She could easily be conditioned into longer walks and hikes. She travels well in the car as long as it's not too soon after she ate.
We have not discovered any food dislikes or allergies.
As foster newbies we could hot have asked for a sweetie, gentler, easier dog! Dixie will make a great addition to any family that is looking for a sweet, snugglie, easy dog! It was a hard choice for her former family to give her up as the lady of the house had Dixie since she was eight weeks old. Dixie has her own bed, crate, harness and several outfitsincluding the beautiful pink sweater in the picture (plus two other adorable sweaters).
