Learn more about the Basset Hound.
Meet our boy, Fabulous Freddie, handsome, mature boy of 6-8 yrs old, who arrived on New Year's Eve and has the biggest paws I have ever seen on a basset. Freddie is one of those bassets that you just know is special when you first meet him. Freddie loves everyone and everyone loves Freddie. He adjusted wonderfully to the house being filled with family over New Year's Eve and Day. The hustle and bustle of house full of kids did not phase him. He is absolutely wonderful with children and absolutely adores my 8 yr old granddaughter, Lizzie. I am amazed at how gentle he is with her. He follows her around for hours as if it was his job to watch over her and there was no food involved. Freddie has ever met a person, child or another furry kid including the kitties that he does greet happily. If you need someone to love on at the end of a hard day, Freddie is your guy. He will happily greet you at the door with a wiggly body of happiness. Freddie is always your go to boy if you need a belly to rub to sooth away your stress. If you need a walk to help you relax, get that leash and Freddie is ready to go. Maybe a ride in the car is more your style? Well this boy loves car rides. He will happily look at the window watching the scenery go by. If your style is just to cuddle, well Freddie is more than happy to cuddle and nap with you. If you rub his ear flaps he will be in heaven. Freddie deep baritone woof is beautiful. He will always woof his appreciation for a meal about to be served. I just love to hear him talk when you ask him a question. Freddie is house-trained to both a dog door and the outside door as well. He is not pushy when you are eating but he of course will engage those pleading “feed me” eyes. Freddie is a polite eater and has never attempts to steal food from any bowl. He prefers to have his nails dremeled rather than have his toebones chopped and as long as there is a little treat afterward he will lay almost quietly while someone performs the dastardly deed. Freddie was diagnosed with Oral Malignant Melanoma on his left upper lip in January 2011. He did have a radical excision of the tumor in February and I can only say how grateful I am for those big basset lips. My worries about possible disfiguration were all for naught. Doc Brown did an awesome reconstruction. If you look closely you can see the lip is shorter and he has a permanent grin on this side. Freddie just had his 3rd recheck for the cancer on June 7th and there is no sign of the cancer returning! This is the best news possible because after all he has been through, Fabulous Freddie deserves to be a cancer survivor. Come and meet Freddie, I think you will find him irresistible.
