Learn more about the Basset Hound.
Bayley is a tricolored male, age 2 1/2. He is house trained to a doggie door. He loves the comfort and height of the couch and at night he sleeps on his foster Mom’s bed. He is good around cats and other small dogs. Would like to dominate bigger dogs but is learning that is not allowed. Although at first he liked to eat without another dog watching, he now eats with the family basset without trouble. Likes to play with the toys, but he is definitely a chewer and will tear up items (like a dog bed), when bored (which is another reason to be careful with children's toys left around the house). In fact, he came to us with a partial intestinal blockage from some fibrous material that was no doubt something that he had torn up and swallowed. His foster mom keeps plenty of safe chew toys around the house and redirects his chewing, and he is happy. Because he is young and full of energy he is much better when he has regular exercise. He loves to be chased, loves to go for walks and to the dog park where he can run free. He may not be suitable for young children, as he is very energetic and may knock them over or chew on their toys, but would be good in a home with older children who will play with him to wear him out. He is a very sweet dog who loves attention and being able to sit right next to you, or on you is even better! Video of Bayley:
