Lucy was born on February 11, 2006. Her father was a lemon and white basset and her mother was a tri color (black, brown and white) basset. Lucy is a tri colored (black, brown and white) basset with very pretty markings. We adopted her when she was 8 weeks old and she has grown to be about 48 lbs.
Lucy is house trained and uses a doggy door to relieve herself in between walks. She has been trained to sit, lay down (down), and shake. She also knows the meaning of no and leave it, which are useful commands as she does like to beg for food. She likes to eat so because of her large appetite she is fed three times a day. She eats about two cups of Blue Buffalo dog food a day and likes her treats in between. Her favorite treats are Pupperoni and an occasional Dingo Bone when she is especially good.
When Lucy was a puppy it was found that she showed allergic reactions to food that contained corn, so she has been fed Blue Buffalo dog food since, which has no corn and has allowed her to have a healthy shiny coat.
Lucy has a loud basset bark that resonates as any basset owner would know, but she actually a scardy cat. She tends to be frightened of vacuum cleaners and brooms, and tends to run into another room. She is most frightened of fireworks around the neighborhood during the 4th of July.
She sleeps on her doggy bed in our home, but given the opportunity, she will probably sleep on your bed as she is very affectionate and loving. She loves children and they love her. She does well with other dogs, but also likes to play on her own and sniff the area around her. She has not been around very many cats, so I am not sure how she would react, but knowing Lucy, she would probably be curious and playful.
Lucy is a very loving dog and is in need of a loving affectionate family. Owners just had a baby who is allergic to Lucy. Her front legs do turn out a bit which is typical of breeding that was not done responsibly. Our experiance has shown that this is usually not a major problem unless completely deformed which hers is not.
