Owen is the perfect 9 month old neutered basset hound and he is a friend we all need. He is always happy, always ready to play, and if you need a cuddle Owen is your guy! Owen has done amazing with other dogs and would flourish in a home that has at least one other dog, especially one that is a little bit older to teach him the ropes. He would also do well in a home where someone is home majority of the time (he can become a bit anxious when left alone) and can dedicate a good chunk of time to engage with him. It’s unsure whether he will be good around cats, but doesn’t seem to react to the local cats on his walks. Owen is still a puppy and he still needs a lot of attention and a lot of exercise. He is used to walking with a harness and leash. Rather than pulling, Owen likes to take his time on his walks. He will stop to smell the flowers and everything in between! He has been off leash and has been working on his recall. During a trip to the beach he enjoyed being off leash and came back when he was called. He enjoys having his morning and evening walks and play time in the afternoon. He LOVES playtime, which starts very early for Mr. Owen (around 7:30 am). He will bark to let you know he is awake and it is time to get the day started. Owen is crate trained, with some encouragement from high value treats. He does prefer to sleep near his doggie foster sister though. He will nap for a few hours everyday, and he especially loves napping with his foster sister and foster mom. He also loves sunbathing so it would be nice for him to be in a home with a yard/patio. Owen can be very stubborn but very food motivated. He is pretty good at his basic commands but is still learning what it means to have manners. Right now that means reinforcing things like only biting on toys and not jumping up too hard. When Owen gets excited he will show that by trying to grab hands and legs with his mouth. He does have a tendency to chew on things that aren’t actually toys, but when he’s given a toy he will redirect his attention. Because of this, Owen would do best in a home with older children and/or a family that has some experience with puppies and training. Owen is very easy to please and ultimately needs a home that has the time and patience to make him the best boy he can be.
