THIS IS A COURTESY LISTING FOR NORCAL BEAGLE RESCUE. PLEASE CONTACT THE FOSTER HOME BELOW FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THIS GORGEOUS BASSET HOUND. Hi, New Friends. I'm Miss Mimi Louise Bassette. As you can see by my pictures, I'm a basset hound, the real deal. I dwarf the beagles here in my foster home. Some of them might be as tall as I am, but none of them can match me in length. If you stretch me out, I measure at least 4' from the tip of my long nose to the tip of my long tail.
The people at the shelter told the Beagle Rescue people that I was 8 years old. The minute I arrived here, Mommy thought I was younger. She knows an old dog when she sees one, and I didn't fit the bill. I knew I was younger, but I didn't know how to tell her in words. People are big on words, basset hounds aren't. Mommy took me to the doctor, and the doctor told her I was 4 - 5. There are certain changes that take place in a dog's eyes when they are 5 - 6 years old. None of those changes have started with me yet. The doctor told Mommy what I'd been trying to tell her all along. The shelter thought I was so old because I have arthritis in my back legs. My back knees are stiff, so I walk and run a little differently than most dogs. At least I can walk and run. At some point in my life, I might have to be on medication for the arthritis, but for now I'm not in any pain, so it isn't needed. I am on special food because there were crystals in my urine. They don't want me to develop kidney stones, and this food will help. It's yummy. Of course, I think ALL food is yummy. Until I arrived here in my foster home I lived a life of neglect. That is enough to make any basset hound old before her time. Luckily, I was taken in before it was too late for me. What I'm looking for now is a home where I can be pampered like I deserve to be. I have a lot of lost time to make up for and want only the good life from now on out. I'm learning to get along with all the other dogs here in my foster home, but I would also be fine as an only dog as long as my people were around a lot. I guess you could call me a special needs dog because of the arthritis and the special food, but Mommy assures me that there are a lot of good-hearted people out there, and she's placed dogs with special needs much greater than mine in wonderful new homes. She also says that the good-hearted person who adopts me will also be a very lucky person.
