Learn more about the Basset Hound.
Barney is truly a sweetheart hound. He somehow found himself in a shelter and his people never came for him. The nice folks at the shelter fell into immediate love with him so called GGBR to spring him from the joint! The first few days in his new foster home were exciting and Barney was feeling pretty worried if he wasn’t with someone at all times but he has settled in nicely. Don’t make a mistake, given the choice Barney prefers to be attached at the hip and never met someone who could pet him that he didn’t like but can settle down and relax as well. And he is an equal opportunity hound who is happy to spend time with male or female, adult or child. He is currently living with 2 kids, ages 10 and 7 and thinks they are just wonderful. He gets along famously with the resident senior (and often cranky) lab at his foster home and exhibits a more passive personality around other dogs. He mostly ignores the 2 cats he is living with other than some thorough sniffing. He has a special weakness for squeaky dog toys as well so his new family will need to be prepared to spread a few around the house and be prepared to be entertained with his antics! His manners are pretty good too. He hasn’t done any counter surfing. He will sit and even come if nothing that smells too wonderful has his attention. He would prefer to sit in your lap on the sofa but will lie on the dog bed on the floor if told to. He shows signs of having been housebroken in the past and generally uses the doggy-door to go outside when he needs to but has had some accidents in the house that we think are more stress-related (and not wanting you to be out of his sight) than anything. We hope to have him 100% soon! Barney is looking for a home where he can receive plenty of attention and although he would probably do fine as an only dog, he would be happiest with another dog to play with. He is exceptionally gentle and tolerant so a home with children is well-suited for him as well. More about BarneyGood with Dogs
