Update: March 20, 2011
- She's very smart! She learned how to use the doggie door much faster than any other dog I've known, though she still doesn't use it consistently for potty breaks.
- She knows we feed her in her crate and goes running for it when she hears us dishing up her food.
- She loves chasing a tennis ball. We haven't tried yet, but I'm sure she'd learn "fetch" very quickly with some treats.
- She has boundless energy!
Betty is not particularly submissive. She's quite a feisty pup, outgoing and confident. She needs to learn to be less 'mouthy' when she plays, but she's bright and should be easily trained. She likes to talk and tell you what's up, but doesn't seem to bark for no reason. She's crate trained, having spent a lot of her young life in one so far. She's content to sleep in one when it's nighttime and everyone is sleeping, or during the day if you are out, but does not want to be in her crate if you're up and about.
Betty (aka, "Betty Boop", "Bossy Betty", "The Bagel") is an energetic, curious and highly intelligent puppy. Her foster home says "She's already learned that if I don't latch the kiddy gate completely, she can nudge it open...little turd!
Since her surgery, she's made a rebound in which words cannot describe (at least with my limited vocabulary). Her weight is quickly returning to normal, she eats her food like a goat gnaws on, well, anything they can. She's healthy, sweet, goofy, and more importantly, as happy as a Bassett on laz-y-boy surrounded by cold cuts, cupcakes, and a pile of squeaky toys (or at least that's what my dogs tell me they want).
She's loves other dogs...loves to play, chew, and talk. That's right, she's a talker. Moments of Beagle, moments of Basset...she knows the sound of a food bag with an inclination to "roo-rooooooooo" if you don't hurry. It's hard to be frustrated when she barks, it's just too cute.
At this time, we are working on potty training.
She would make a great addition to any home. She's got a lot of love to give."
Check out her updated photos...The main photo is her now, one post surgery and the other is the day we pulled her from the shelter. What a difference a couple of weeks can make!
